Meet Cam! A 22 year old hero.
This is Cam. She works at a school as a TA. She started working with young people in 2012. She volunteers at the Hub youth club and she volunteers at church too. Cam thinks that young people often get bad press. She believes that when you work with young people you have to see the reason for their behaviour and analyse why they are behaving like they do. There's always a reason. She has worked with young people with behavioural and emotional issues. Cam shows an incredible understanding of young people, tolerance and patience! Her calmness and quiet confidence shines through when I spoke to her. Cam was nominated to be one of the 100 local heroes that I am looking for because she goes beyond just being a TA. She talks to the young people, understands and helps them to change things around for themselves. Helping them understanding why they are reacting to situations and how to change their behaviours is something Cam has shown a great skill for. She has investigated various therapy solutions and regularly use the school Therapy dog to help the young people overcome their challenges.
Cam believes that often people talk down to young people, and do not treat them as equals. Cam's passion and dedication for helping young people with emotional and behavioural issues shines through. She is currently taking her degree in childhood and youth studies.
This is why Cam is a hero!
